How can I recover cardboard or plastic cores from used reels?

A core stripper machine cuts the residual wound material lengthways and releases the inner core intact. RECYCLO does this in one cycle: the core comes out reusable and the material falls by gravity into the basket underneath as a clean, single-material fraction ready for recycling.

Is a core stripper an alternative to a guillotine?

Yes. A guillotine cuts through both material and core at once, so the two end up broken and mixed and cannot be separated cleanly afterwards. A core stripper removes only the material and leaves the core whole, keeping both fractions usable.

Why is a manual cutter a problem?

Stripping reels by hand with a utility knife is long, labour-intensive and dangerous, and it gives no guarantee that the core survives undamaged. A fully guarded machine removes the hand-held blade from the process entirely.

Limits of the machine

What is the real limit of the RECYCLO machine?

The true constraint of the current version is the thickness of the wound material: RECYCLO cuts up to 100 mm (10 cm) of material wound on the core. Beyond that the reel would be too heavy and the blade would struggle. Within that limit, reels up to 1,500 mm long, 600 mm in outer diameter and 150 kg are handled without difficulty.

Are there materials that cannot be cut?

The critical cases are very hard, rigid materials such as calendered PVC, and adhesive-coated (self-adhesive) materials that do not detach easily. The whole principle relies on the stripped material falling by gravity into the metal basket below: if the material stays stuck to the core, or is too rigid for the blade, the cycle is not effective. Everything else - LDPE, PP, PS, PET, HDPE films, paper and paper-based laminates, printed film, aluminium - is processed normally.

Does it work if the material is wound on metal cores?

Yes. RECYCLO also works with metal cores (steel, aluminium and similar). The only precaution is to set the cut so that about half a millimetre of material is left on the core: this prevents the blade from touching the metal and being damaged.

Operation & parameters

Can I load reels of different lengths and different material thicknesses in one cycle?

Yes. You can load reels of different lengths at the same time: the clamp pushes them together on the bar into a single group. The blade then reads the outer surface of the widest reel and starts cutting from there. The only condition is that the total length of the group does not exceed 1,500 mm.

Which parameters does the machine detect automatically?

Once you enter the core wall thickness, the machine derives the outer diameter; the clamp that locks the reels on the shaft measures the total length of the reel - or of the group of reels - to be cut. The only other value the operator sets is the blade feed speed, because some materials are very rigid and hard and need a slower pass.

How many values does the operator actually have to enter?

Two: the core wall thickness and the blade feed speed. Everything else is detected by the machine. That is why RECYCLO can be run by any warehouse operator after a short briefing.

What core diameters does it handle?

From 76-304 mm with the standard bar. A 50 mm version is available on request with a special bar.

What is the actual hourly throughput?

2,500 kg/h on soft materials (LDPE, PP, PS); 1,300 kg/h on aluminium. Throughput depends on the material and on how much of it is wound on each reel.

How much space does the machine need?

Overall dimensions are 2,644 x 824 mm - a fraction of a guillotine station with its safety perimeter, and it is plug and play: one plug, and you place it where you need it.

How safe is the operator?

RECYCLO is fully guarded and CE-compliant. The blade is enclosed behind interlocked guards and is never handled by hand; the operator interacts only with the touch screen and the loading clamp.

PPWR & recyclability

When does the PPWR apply?

Reg. (EU) 2025/40 applies in general from 12 August 2026, with design-for-recycling requirements from 2030 and recyclability at scale from 2035.

How does end-of-reel recovery support PPWR?

Recovering cores intact demonstrates the reuse of a packaging component (EN 13429); keeping the residual material in a clean, single-material stream demonstrates real recyclability. Together they build a documented compliance case for your PPWR file.

Is the recovered material really recyclable?

Yes. Because it is removed without core fragments mixed into it, it stays uncontaminated and can enter the recycling stream of its own material family - which also makes it easier to sell instead of paying to dispose of it.
